Two Tips to Lower Credit Card Debt

The Nashua Telegraph is running a weeklong series on personal finance, and that includes topics related to credit card debt.  There were some helpful reminders already for those trying to get a handle on their mounting credit card debt.

  • Keep track of your expenses.  Writing down all of your payments (including the discretionary spur of the moment purchases) will help you figure out which items you can live without and where you can save.  You may find your allocation of expenses quite shocking!
  • When you make more than the minimum payment, apply it to credit cards with the highest interest rate first, and then move to the next lowest interest rate when that card is paid off.
